The Persistence of Discrimination.
I would like to share my views on how discrimination is still an ongoing behavior and how this can be avoided in this multiple racial society.
Firstly, according to Dinesh(2016,p336), discrimination is preferring to better treat a certain category of human beings over another. This practice is mostly observed in the workplace environment.
Secondly, this practice, of selecting based on specific characteristics, conveys a very bad Public Relations (PR) image and reputation of any given organization (Adrienne & Eden 2018). Yet companies keep doing it.
Therefore, it is advisable to companies involve in such practice to always make sure no one is hurts. They need to do their best to clean their images in the eyes of their competitors and clients which are meant to be taken into consideration in such matters.
Futhermore, discrimination creats a very uncomfortable environment for society and might eventually have a negative effect on the production of that given society.
Therefore, bearing all necessary information on what is acceptable and not, based on your operating countries, is very crucial to assist your organization advance in a positive image to avoid negative reputation.
Let us say for instance, there is a management crisis at your company where black employees are complaining for not getting top management positions as compare to their fellow white coworkers.
And because of that, the company's black shareholders or clients are threatening to withdraw from doing business with your company in support of their black brothers.
How can this be solved and avoided in future? That is the question.
In today's society, people tend to be more clever hence do not allow any form of unfair discrimination.
Referring to the above question, it will be advisable to always bring both parties to the table in order to get an insight as to why exactly are black employees not gaining positions that they desire.
We might have various reasons to the problem. Perhaps because black employees at this particular company really are not productive, not good negotiators or simply because they are not the face that the company want to convey out there. Observation may be a key technique to confirm any accusation that may result in such particular preferences.
Otherwise it is better to always train your employees to be ready to any given situation.
Meaning that, the appropriate manager should always make sure for instance that the receptionist is ready to play the manager's role at any given time.
Companies always find themselves in chaotic situations in the event of sudden death of their key players in the organization or yet where their senior managers resign without noticing or giving enough time to the organization to find a replacement. Hence we must be prepared to the worst to come.
Human beings are not equal in many aspect. We find smart and not so smart individuals, lazy and hard workers, abled bodied and disabled and so on, the list is kinda long.
However, we all should be given equal opportunity to learn and adapt to any environment or situation. Preferring a race over another because of any discriminative reason is not a good excuse to bring forward since everyone can learn and adapt.
In addition, it is written that we have fair and unfair discrimination.
The first being the fact that individuals can be chosen based on the job requirements, meaning that when the job adverts requires the job seeker to hold at least 10 years of experience in the field, for instance, to fill up the available position, whoever gets rejected for not fulfilling this requirement can not say they have been discriminated on the basis of lack of experience.
The international employment law, which is also applies in many countries, gives permission to employer to chose the one they prefer based on the affirmative action measures where the law gives priority to previously disadvantage individuals such as women, black and disabled. These are characteristics of people who used to get rejected simply based on how their looked.
Unfair discrimination is basically when you do not have any proven reason to reject an individual and this one is not permitted hence prohibited.
It is however very sad to see that in this 21st century, companies are still not adhering to the rule of treating everyone equally.
